Approximately 170 kilometres south of Sydney, Nowra (and it's twin town Bomaderry) is located on the south-east coast of New South Wales.

Nowra's main industries are farming, paper production, tourism and the Roayl Australian Navy, who have an air base just south of the town. The town suffers from high levels of unemployment and this has been suggested as the cause for Nowra's high levels of drug abuse and domestic violence.
